Process-Based Psychological Assessments
How our evaluations compare
Dr. Engen's process-based psychological testing goes beyond standard diagnosis to uncover the specific cognitive, behavioral, and interpersonal processes — such as thought patterns and avoidance behaviors — that are driving your symptoms. The result is a precise, personalized roadmap that brings real clarity to your next steps, whether that's therapy, medication, or further evaluation.
Who is this for?
This is especially helpful for those with complex challenges or a history of minimal benefit from prior treatment, ensuring your investment in your well-being leads to real, lasting change.
Methodology for Psychodiagnostic Evaluations
Dr Engen’s goal with his evaluations is to provide an accurate and integrated conception of the person, highlighting the individual’s psychological patterns as well as their measurable strengths and weaknesses. He evaluates several different areas of an individual’s functioning such as behavior, affect, cognition, motivational dynamics, sociality and interpersonal functioning, familial and environmental context, and physiology; essentially, what makes the person psychologically unique. Rather than focus too much on pathology and deficits, he illuminates an individual’s strengths which can help them navigate life better based on their repertoire.
Dr Engen uses CREYOS, a leading-edge technology system (formerly Cambridge Brain Systems), that effectively administers complex tests remotely and in-office, as well as specialized tests such as the Millon and Minnesota Multiaxial Inventory, and standardized tests such as Conners, Wechsler, Kaufman, and Beck.

Payment & Insurance
We determine case by case whether we accept insurance for an evaluation. We may only accept private pay because of the following:
Testing benefits vary by insurance provider and by specific plan. Some plans stipulate the deductible has to be met before they will reimburse.
Each evaluation requires a number of different tests depending on diagnosis, symptoms and age of patient. An insurance provider may say they will reimburse ‘general psychological testing’, but the amount of units or funds allocated vary considerably. Coverage also is not a guarantee of actual payment.
Some insurance providers require authorizations for testing. Not all units for a complete test may be ultimately authorized which limits therefore the ability to carry out the test in its entirety.
We are committed to providing a valid assessment that meets the standards stipulated by the American Psychological Association. We are also committed to administered the tests in accordance with the guidelines set by the testing provider.
